The title “Miss Universe” was first used by the International Pageant of Pulchritude in 1926. This contest was held annually until 1935, when the Great Depression and other events preceding World War II led to its demise. The current Miss Universe pageant was founded in 1952 by Pacific Knitting Mills, a California-based clothing company and manufacturer of Catalina Swimwear. The company was the sponsor of the Miss America pageant until 1951, when the winner, Yolande Betbeze, refused to pose for publicity pictures wearing one of their swimsuits. In 1952, Pacific Knitting Mills organized the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, co-sponsoring them for decades to follow. The first Miss Universe Pageant was held in Long Beach, California in 1952. It was won by Armi Kuusela from Finland, who gave up her title, though not officially, to get married, shortly before her year was completed. Until 1958, the Miss Universe title, like that of Miss America, was dated by the year following the contest, so at the time Ms. Kuusela’s title was Miss Universe 1953.
The crown of Miss Universe has changed nine times over the course of its 65-year history. The first crown, the Romanov Imperial nuptial crown, was previously owned by the now-defunct Russian monarchy. It was used by Armi Kuusela in 1952.
From fanatics and not so fanatical
As a child I did not love the ball very much, but I liked to collect figurines, glasses and decals from the soccer cups. And is that it is impossible even being fond of other hobbies, not getting carried away by the people around you, who are attentive to the dates of their favorite soccer selections, dare to bet on forecasts and the occasional collection of souvenirs from all kinds. This year for the first time the selection of my country PANAMA participates, and the fact of qualifying maintains the hopes of many fans to see their idols score many goals. Their camp will be located in Saransk at the Olimpic Sports Center, Russia.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia (Russian: Чемпионат мира по футболу Россия 2018) will be the twenty-first edition of the Football World Cup. This edition of the event will take place in Russia between June 14 and July 15, 2018, being the first time that an Eastern European country organizes the championship. Russia confirmed 12 stadiums in 11 cities for the World Cup: Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Sochi and Volgograd, which will host the 64 World Cup matches. As a curious fact, of the 12 designated stadiums, only two were completely finished at the time of their election as headquarters, which had to be remodeled so that they could host the matches. Another, the Spartak in Moscow, was inaugurated in August 2014. The others, including Luzhnikí in that same capital and with capacity for 81,300 spectators (main venue and the largest stadium), began to be built in later years.
For the creation of the mascot of the World Cup, Russia opened a platform where Russian citizens could give their preferences on the type of character, choose their characteristics and even choose the name of the mascot. The official mascot of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia is a funny, seductive and self-confident wolf called Zabivaka (or “little scorer”). ), which obtained 53% of the votes of the Russian public, followed by the tiger with 27% of the votes and the cat with 20% of the votes.
